Parambikulam Trekking

The Parambikulam Tiger Reserve offers many trekking packages where you may feel the music of the woods and be enchanted by its luxuriant wildlife. Sloth Bear, Gaur, Sambar Deer, Barking Deer, Spotted Deer, primates like Nilgiri Langur, Lion Tailed Macaque, Slender Loris, the gentle giant- the elephant, the charismatic cat-the tiger and so on may put on an appearance. Parambikulam Trekking Trails are Bear Path Trail, Pugmark Trail, Karianshola Trail and Elephant Song Trail.

Pugmark Trail
Ever been on a trail of the majestic cat-The Tiger? For nature enthusiasts, catching a glimpse of this magnificent cat itself is a dream. The Pugmark Trail lets you do just that- that is if you get lucky. The 10 km trail to track the pugmarks of the cat starts from Peruvaripallam Earth Dam. En-route you reach the Kannimara teak, dubbed as the world’s largest teak, which is 465 years old. The trail through teak plantations then reaches Thunakadavu and back to Anapadi.

Elephant Song Trail
Yearning to see the wildlife but cannot risk an arduous trek? Then this trail is for you. Elephant Song Trail is a soft trek intended for all age groups. This 4 km trail stretches through miniature evergreen patches of the Western Ghats.

Bear Path Trail 
The Bear Path Trail is a 4 km trail which starts from ‘Nalayiram Point’, winds its way mostly through vast teak plantations. It tracks the pugmarks of the Sloth Bear. 500 m into the trail, you reach the feeding ground of sloth bears which they frequent early in the morning. The trail at Seechali is flanked on either side by teak plantations and bamboo groves. Tigers can be spotted at times near the waterhole at Seechali. Shortly into the trail, you reach an open grassland which cradles a pond. Here, a rich avian life capering about in abandon can be seen. Come December, and it bursts into life with migratory birds till June. The trail ends at Anapadi.

Kariyanshola Trail
The Karianshola Trail is 6 km trail, which starts from Anapadi and then feathers into the moist deciduous forest. After a 4km stretch, you enter the dense woods, the evergreen forest which bursts with wildlife. Here you may catch a glimpse of King Cobra among other snakes. Hornbills and monitor lizards can be seen apart from other animals. 

Note: Trained naturalists will be provided for these trekking packages. Take necessary precautions to prevent leech bites.
